Rich And Vivid: The Caribbean History

Home to various cultures from around the globe, it’s a hot spot for tourists. The history of the Caribbean is long and colorful, just as the culture and people living in it making its festivities the most attractive in the world

Three tribes dominated the early Caribbean history: Arawaks, Ciboney ad Caribs. Columbus stirred up the beaches and the natives when he arrived. Everyone in western Europe joined the band wagon and travelled to the west indies.

The warring countries almost destroyed everyone. Along came the development of modern Caribbean history.

When the fighting stopped and the westerners settled down with their plantations and slaves, the new masters carved their own cultures assimilating western, African and local celebrations and festivities. What’s good about the conquerors is they preserved historical sites through the years.

The culture is a soup of different flavors coming from cultures all across Europe and Africa. Food came about from imperial cuisine while most of the dishes nowadays came from original recipes of the slaves. Back then, the masters gave their slaves food that they do not want and this explains the African inspired but Caribbean spiced food. So what you will find nowadays are African dishes flavored with local Caribbean spices.

When the wars ceased, everyone lived in harmony and the people realized the importance of aversion to war. As everyone started understanding and learning the importance of cultural tolerance, the region developed a more colorful and vibrant culture.

The history of the Caribbean has taught us that culture lifestyles richly develop when peace is present in everyone. More and more festivities came about as art and dances flourished. With war and peace as a part of Caribbean history, the region developed its unique characteristics.
