How do I fix a bad ground on a turn signal?
I have a 1998 Camaro and my left turn signal won’t blink. Both turn signal bulbs work fine, and the right side turn signal blinks properly. So I think it’s a bad ground.
Before you start hacking up your wiring for nothing, you might want to give some more symptoms and ask your question again. Are the left turn signals both front and back not working?
Do they both not light up, or both light up but don’t blink? Does the brake light also not work on that side?
It would be highly unusual for more than one ground to go bad at the same time, and if one does, the electricity will usually find an alternate path to ground, causing what we call “gremlins”. Weird symptoms in the other lights.
If that same rear bulb also has a taillight filament, then a bad ground wire would knock that light out too. Same ground for both filaments.
If just one end is out, it’s much more likely a feed wire is broken, or if both ends are out, a bad turn signal switch.
Either way, ultimately you’ll probably need to get a 12 volt test light to be sure what the problem is.
About $10 at any auto parts store. Best investment you’ll ever make.
