Star Trek DVDs – Seen The Actual Celebrity Trek Film And Want Much More?
Are you new to the Star Trek universe? Have you seen the new movie and want more? Want to know where to jump in and start exploring?
The answer is in Star Trek DVDs. Rather than reading the books, or trying to catch Star Trek on TV, you will have a much more enjoyable experience if you get a set of DVDs.
This way, at your leisure, you can start at the beginning of a given set of stories, and follow the different threads over several episodes. You will also discover jokes that have become ‘in’ jokes, and really enjoy seeing these jokes recurring as the characters develop.
There are five main series of Star Trek stories:
1. The Original Series, also known as TOS
2. The Next Generation, also known as TNG
3. Voyager
4. Deep Space Nine, also known as DS9 or DSN
5. Enterprise, later renamed Star Trek Enterprise
The film you saw tells the story of how Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, and the rest met. Their first voyage. So, you might enjoy following the alternate time line starting with The Original Series. You will follow Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhuru and co on their own adventures, as they “discover strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no man has gone before”. You’ll see the gadgets and technology that were quite revolutionary in their day. You’ll see the interesting situations they encounter, and their sometimes quirky solutions.
You could then move unto The Next Generation which takes place in the 24th century, nearly 100 years after Kirk and co. In TNG you will meet the set aside deliver leader, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, the more Kirk-like second-in-command, William Riker, and also the Spock-like google android, Data. And you’ll watch incredibly thought provoking and entertaining stories of the crew exploring space, exploring different ways of living, exploring complex moral dilemmas, and meeting new aliens – both benign and formidable.
Then you’d want to delve into Voyager. The Federation Starship U.S.S. Voyager has been taken far away to the to the Delta Quadrant on the other side of the galaxy. Unwillingly. Captain Kathryn Janeway must get her crew home. That journey will take seventy years, unless they can find a short cut. Because they head house, searching for methods to reduce the length of their trip, you’ll relish viewing the team wrestle along with familiar ethical and ethical issues made distinctive through extraordinary conditions.
Deep Space Nine is a busy space station by a wormhole. The wormhole makes travel between the Alpha and Gamma quadrants possible. It brings a load of new aliens, new lifestyles, new religions, new friends, and new adversaries. It’s scope is huge. You’ll want to watch this set next. It contains sophisticated, interlocking storyline that build up to an enormously dramatic climax, and then set off in surprising directions.
Enterprise is a prequel series set 150 years before TOS and the new Star Trek film you watched. But I suggest you watch it last because I think it’s so much more rewarding to watch retrospectively. Watching how new technology is introduced and received, makes for very entertaining viewing. Technologies like phase pistols and rarely used, still-risky transporters. And you get to watch a lot of daring, pioneering adventures, all the more enthralling because we know just how much they – Archer and his people – don’t know.
