whats a good clear/under coat for Tamiya models?

Ive started making Tamiya 1/20 scale F1 models and i need to know whats a good clear/under coat. I think its some sort of light grey colour but i need to know the exact Spary paint colour.
I want to know what is a good base coat spray for a tamiya model.

First, it will depend on what PAINT you intend to use… You don’t want to use an Acrylic Primer if you’ll be using Enamel or Lacquer paints…. Primer tends to have a slightly higher solvent count to adhear to the model and provide a matte surface with “bite” for the paint.

I’d recommend using Tamiya’s own brand of paints (enamel) since you’re a beginner. The colors will match the numbers they recommend.

Use Tamiya’s Primer (spray): http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=87064 . I lightly prime my models ON the sprue (connecting rods), and then prime again lightly after building the model and using putty to fill gaps. I now use almost exclusively TESTORS paints on all plastic models… and FLOQUIL / POLLY S paints on my railroad-work.

BUT, always FIRST wash the model parts in luke-warm water with a touch of dish-soap to remove any silicon mold-release agent and fingerprint oils.

GOOD LUCK !!
