MS Versus Apple – Take 102

Over 60 adverts and 4 years after Apple first started taking a dig at PC users, Microsoft has decided enough is enough and has added a brand new section to the windows 7 user page, which compares what you get from a Mac and what you get with a PC.

Four years on from the start of the PC bashing campaign by Apple, Microsoft has finally got wise and has decided to fight fire with fire using PC components to demonstrate the theory, in their eyes at least, that a windows PC is superior to a Mac. It makes some good points too, after all, you wont find a Blu-ray player, TV tuner or a memory stick reader for a Mac. The Mac also struggles with some of the newer technology like built in 3G wireless and Microsoft are quick to point this out too.

Of course, all of this is true to a degree but we also know that inside a Mac beats the heart of an Intel processor, so you won’t be surprised to hear they havent covered this but they do bang on about the lack of gaming software for the Apple built machines. Its broadly true that the Mac is under served when it comes to big titles in the gaming world and you wont see Mario Kart or even the next Call of Duty being made for it, but it does have a good catalogue of game including Counter Strike Source and in any case, people who buy a Mac, arent buying it to play games, so its a moot point.

It’s also worth considering that Microsoft makes a version of Office for the Mac and it’s hardly free of charge is it…

When you look at the page, its clear the PC comes out on top, but we arent even measuring against the things a Mac does do exceptionally well. If you want it for fun, media and the occasional web surfing then obviously you are going to be choosing from a range of Desktop PCs but if your goal is graphic design or hardcore movie editing then a Mac really is a no brainer.

This isnt rocket science and it isn’t any different to how its been for the last 15 years, which makes Microsofts decision to go for the jugular now, all the more curious?
