Soldering Assembly

Soldering Assembly
briggs 14hp horizontal points?

Why is there a strap or wire soldered from the point contact arm( the one the plunger moves) to the points frame assembly? Why would it be needed its already grounded to the arm tension spring and the points frame thru contact of being bolted to the block. I would think that the points rocker arm would make connection where it rides in that groove on that round thing

I can only assume it is there to ensure a ground is made all the time and dirt and stuff doesn’t effect it. Did you know that you can use the ignition module from most any briggs engine and eliminate the points?
I picked up a mower from feecycle and used the ignition module on my 8 hp briggs for my tiller. No more points and condenser issues. You can leave the points in place and just not use them.
