Diego Velasquez, a Result of Spain’s Creative Ventures

There are a number of dimensions in the art of painting and there are various styles, and various forms; the reason of a piece may serve as the manifestation of the painter’s emotions and sentiments. Surrealistic, realistic, abstract and other genres of movements have already come and gone; paintings have also served different kinds of intentions throughout history; from personal to political.

Spain is definitely one of the artistically gifted countries in Europe and, as a matter of fact, in the world. If you really are a painting aficionado and have the means to travel abroad, then the first country you should visit is Spain; their museums, buildings and rich culture and good food are truly to be seen and experienced. However, for you to explore Spain, and find those exceptional museums, you must take time and learn how to understand and speak some basic Spanish words and the easiest way to do that is by taking advantage of the web through trying out Rocket Spanish; they offer lessons on Spanish language and their culture, and the basic lessons that you need are given for free. Rocket Spanish lessons is an excellent tool that can aid you in learning to speak Spanish.

A lot of Spanish painters have put a standard in the world of painting, and during Spain’s Golden Age or what is called El Siglo de Oro; several brilliant Spanish painters were acclaimed. Still, one master that became most famous of them all is Diego Velasquez who was considered as one of the most highly respected and influential painters during his era. He was friends with King Philip IV and his chief minister as his artworks were much revered by everyone and in every piece he made, Velasquez displayed his skill and style.

Diego Velasquez was given life in June 5, 1599 in Seville and he is the first born of six children and came from a family of minor nobility. Velasquez’s skill was so noticeable that at the young age of eleven, he started his lesson with another master of the arts at that time whose name was Francisco Pacheco. Velasquez married the daughter of his master and earned a living for his family through concentrating on making paintings with religious themes for churches and taverns.

Many amazing pieces launched Diego Velasquez’s career as a painter; he is one of the few Spanish painters who could really be called a master in his artistry because of the many great pieces he produced in his lifetime. One popular piece that he created when he met Marquez de Spinola is the Surrender of Breda; the painting tells the victory of Spinola and when it was shown to Spinola he was captivated and greatly revered the brilliance of how Velasquez captured such emotions and expressed them through realism in his portraits. However the most famous masterpiece that Diego produced is Las Meninas or The Maids in Honour; it is regarded as the most viewed painting in the whole world, and it seems that most people who are not very much familiar with Spain’s history in the world of painting knew only one Spanish painter, that is Diego Velasquez, because of Las Meninas.

There are other painters considered to be masters like Diego Velasquez, but the fact still remains that Velasquez was ahead of his time, and that he had given much to realism through his many famous paintings.
