Revell Enamel
plastic car model makers…this paint isnt working on the plastic! help?
i am building a revell model and im trying to paint the doors and seats, etc semi gloss black with a brush from a little 1/2 oz bottle of “model master” enamel/paint. and its not really working..at all. its like trying to use watercolor paint on it.. its just very streaky….its not even black. you just see strokes of the plastic.
i figured if i just dd one coat and waited a day or two, i could apply another, and it’d be just fine. but when i try to do this, i think im just streaking away the old paint, and moving it around, just creating another big spot of plastic to be seen.
any help?
spray paint? how the hell does someone expect someone to spray paint part of a 2 inch door black, and the other part of the door silver?
…thats impossible.
do i need acrylic based paint?
cause ive built 5-6+ models, and ive always brushed all my interior, and it was all fine. but i think i used acrylic? i just dont remember..
Okay, FIRST wash all your model parts in luke warm water and dish-soap, rinse, and let dry on towels. ALWAYS wash your hands before working on any model… if possible, buy some cotton or latex gloves. Finger oils and the silicon mold-release agent can really mess up paint adhesion.
My NEXT guess as to the cause of the problem would be insufficient mixing of your paint… I’ve been using Testors Model Master paints for 20 years with no problems when mixed correctly. It sounds like the pigment is all at the bottom of the bottle and you’re “painting” with black tinted thinner !!
Just FYI, you CAN spray small parts like that. You just need to do some thinking / planning prior to building the model !! An example, I’d spray the seats and door interior black, then put on blue masking tape over the door-panel, trim it up with and Xacto knife and then paint it the interior color of the car.
When I build a model, I frequently spray or airbrush 85% of the model before I even take the parts off the sprue !!
GOOD LUCK.
