Can cast resin be recast or recycled?

Let’s say you’ve been experimenting with casting resin (Easy Cast, Castin’ Craft, etc.) You’re learning as you go. Some pieces are great. Some not so. Is there anything you can do with the not-so-great pieces or with the little chips that come off when you clean up a pieces?

They can not be recast. Epoxy resins (as well as most others) harden because of a chemical reaction. Not because of solidifying after having been melted or dissolved. So you can not turn it around. Well, chemists may know a way, but I doubt that would be suitable for home practise.

As to recycling them, well. Depending on what you cast, you could perhaps use them as a filler when casting stuff. For intstance by using more solid bits as a core. That way you will also save on resin. There are a few risks though. Air enclosures (bubbles) may appear easier and the solid bits may “float” or be pushed to the surface while casting. So it will take some experimenting to get it right.
