Red Lacquer
Adding bold color to untreated wood?
I have a bedside table that I wanted to make either blue, green or red. What’s the best way to color it?
I saw a wax product online that adds real color (not “cherry” or “mahogany”) with the finish but it’s sold overseas… can I get that here or should I just paint it?
Can I use interior paint like run of the mill Home Depot stuff? Do I need to apply a finish first? If so, what kind (lacquer, poly–water/oil)?

For a really crazy vivid color look for ‘woodburst’ products at stores like rockler.com or woodcraft. I mean Super bright!!! Woodburst makes wood dyes and stains. They make powder dyes and stains that are dilutible with water or denatured alchohol. It’s easy to do. Just follow the instructions and test somewhere first.

1. Find out what material the table is made out of.
2. Appropriately prep for the particular surface.
if you want to paint it-then lightly sand, use a water based primer.
3. Paint with a water based paint.
paint 2 coats. use a semi-gloss so you can skip sealing it.
Use the right paint materials for the surface
Follow instructions on the paint can
Ask the paint department at home depot about selecting the correct paint and the right brush or roller.
