Ochre Brown

I came back from a night out to find a slug in the kitchen. What should I do? SENSIBLE ANSWERS PLZ!?
It was crawling around on a piece of wood that had fallen off from the panel underneath the oven.
It was about 4/5 inches long (Between 10 and 13 cm) and dark dirty brown with ochre-coloured blobs along the top of its back. I sprinkled a bit of salt on the panel it was crawling on (but, hopefully, not enough to actually kill it). The only alcohol in the house – as far as I know – was a half-sugar Bacardi Breezer.
I assume slugs are unwelcome in kitchens and that they cause and spread disease.
I’m from the UK, but all suggestions are welcomed.
The slug’s gone now, but I just wanted to know for future reference.
Pick up the piece of wood with the slug still on it, and throw the slug outside, then step on it. Check to see how it got into your kitchen. There’s probably a hole in the wall under your oven for the wires to come through. Seal that up. No need to caulk it, just fill the extra space with 0000 steel wool.
