What can we do as parents, teachers and leaders to help produce, in the next generation, more Mother Teresa and less Dick
Cheneys? What kinds of guidance should we provide?

I feel that we need to teach the next generation of children from day one that they are responsible for their lives. Mankind’s greatest gift, also its greatest curse, is that we have free choice. We can encourage children to make choices built from love, like Mother teresa or from anger, hate and fear like Dick Cheney.

However, You could have asked this question with using Cheney’s name, and you might not have inflamed some of the responders who feel a need to defend the man rather than address the underlying issue of positive character development for the youth of America.

A personal attack just invites other personal attacks back.
Resist the urge to lower yourself to the kind of attacking, and insult filled person that you don’t want our children to model.

Mother Teresa’s focus was helping the sick and the poor, while she promoted peace and love. I feel that hew would disagree that she was generous, kind, charitable in nature, The people that respect these softer traits respect her.
Dick Cheney’s focus was the super wealthy, and he did promote war and hate. I think that few would deny that he is arrogant, aggressive, hard-hearted and attacking in nature, The people that respect these assertive traits respect him.
