Can you set the HD jumper to cable select from master without hurting HD?

I have a Maxter HD, and it loads really slow. I tried putting in a slave and the MB would not read it at all. I accidently set the jumper to cable select and it took off quick. Will it hurt my current HD and the info on it if I set the jumper to cable select from master as the MB sees the HD as a master?

The slave setting is only for having it as a second drive on the same IDE cable. Cable select automatically sets it as a master or a slave. I pretty much always use cable select; I have actually had ones that will not work manually set as master but are fine with cable select.

You will be fine leaving it on cable select.
