How can I sharpen a katana in a SIMPLE way? no complex things please?
I just want to sharpen my katana in a very basic, easy way. Nothing special. I do have a kitchen knife sharpener in my house, and i’m willing to use that. I just want it a little sharpened, and nothing too extreme or unrealistic. Just give me a simple way, and i mean no “grinding stones” and no sand paper or anything like that.
that depends on what your particular sword is made of
grind stones/whetstones are the traditional way
forget sandpaper unless you want your grandkids to still be sharpening it
power kitchen knife sharpeners will work fast and give a consistant edge
most katana blades made today are made of stainless steel for flashy showing and not intended for use
a few are made of high carbon steel
and fewwer still are traditional forging as well as being already
“scary sharp”
to find out which it is look next to the hand guard for a stamp that says 440 stainless
if so your blade is stainless steel and will be much harder to sharpen in addition to not holding that edge for long
a carbon blade will sharpen easier and hold its edge far longer
use a power knife sharpener to reshape the edge then hone the edge to remove any burrs
handle this blade with extreme care and do not show off with it or someone will get seriously hurt
even a dull sword can kill
a sharp one just does it faster
always treat your sword with respect and handle with care
the same level you’d give a loaded gun
