A Guide To Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado

Rocky Mountain NP is essentially a national park situated in US state of Colorado’s north central region. It comes with majestic mountain views, easy access to backcountry trails and campsites, varied climates and environments and variety of wildlife from wooden forests to mountain tundra.

Rocky Mountain National Park The park is located northwest of Boulder, Colorado in the Rockies and includes the headwaters and Continental Divide of Colorado River. It features five visitor centers.

Beaver Meadows Visitor Center is the headquarters of the park and also a National Historic Landmark intended by Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture in Taliesin West. Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado It may be accessed by three roads such as State Highway 7, United States Highway 34 and 36. The Roosevelt National Forest surrounds the park on east and north, the Arapaho National Forest on southwest and Routt National Forest on northwest.

The park is split by the Continental Divide, which gives the eastern and western portions of the park a different character. It contains 359 miles of trails, 450 miles of streams, 150 lakes and over 60 named peaks higher than 12,000 feet. Longs Peak is the only 14 thousand foot peak in the area and one of the tallest points of the park.

You will find various permanent snowfields and small glaciers in high peak cirques such as Taylor Glacier, Andrews Glacier, Rowe Glacier, Moomaw Glacier, Tyndall Glacier, Sprague Glacier and Mills Glacier. Some of the popular areas in the park include Longs Peak, Bear Lake, located in the heart of the park, Trail Ridge Road, Wild Basin, Mummy Range, Never Summer Mountains and Paradise Park.

The Fauna of these forests includes Elk, beavers, coyotes, ground squirrels, deer, porcupines and chipmunks. The nearest major airport is Denver International Airport located about 1 hour and 45 minutes away from the park with connecting service to most major United States cities.

You can also hike along the following trails: Bierstadt Lake, Lily Mountain, Emerald Lake, Sky Pond, Fern Odessa Loop, Flattop and Hallets, Bluebird Lake, The CCY (Chapin, Chaquita and Ypsilon), Shelf and Solitude Lakes, Longs Peak via the Keyhole Route, Continental Traverse and McHenrys Peak. There are quite a few campgrounds as well; these include Aspenglen Campground, Glacier Basin Campground, Glacier Basin Group Sites, Longs Peak Campground, Moraine Park Campground, Moraine Park Group Sites and Timber Creek Campground.
