Enamel Tin

Ever tried covering your stove top with Foil ?
I friend came over to cook something at our house. He had a great idea for making the cleanup easy. he completely covered the top of the stove, including the burners, with tin foil. Then he put four fry pans on top of it and started cooking.
After about 40 minutes (the food was delicious) we had discovered the the control knobs had melted. We managed to get them off and used pliers to close two of the valves but the other two would not close.
Then we saw that the enamel on the stove had burned off in a couple placed.
My theory is that the foil caused the stove to heat up much higher than it was made for and it burned up.
Anyway, have any experience with this ?
if u have ceramic plates on top of the burners u can wrap it in foil and replace it like every other week
