tour vs droid – Verizon
Hi, I have been trying to synchronize my 6230b to my pc through IrDa. And I keep getting this error message from PC suite saying:
PC Suite does not recognize the connected phone. Connection between PC and phone failed, error code 0×80043605. Switch off phone and try again.
Well I have switched the phone off numerous times and I still keep getting the same error message. And this is not the first time I have encountered this problem. I would get the same error message on my 6100. Is it a nokia flaw that you cant sync the phone to the PC correctly? Cause I can sync my k700 to my PC through Irda perfectly fine, but what is wrong with sending to a nokia? I really need help!! Thanks in advance!!
which battery will generally last the longest? id be using it for nothing more than texting + facebook + internet browsing. dont really use apps, wifi, or bluetooth.
i have the tour now but want the droid but DO NOT want a phone that eats up battery quicker. battery life is my #1 priority when looking for a phone
The Motorola Droid (WCDMA/GSM version: Motorola Milestone, stylized as DROID) is an Internet and multimedia enabled smartphone designed by Motorola, which runs Google’s Android operating system. The brand name Droid is a trademark of Lucasfilm licensed to Verizon Wireless.
In the United States, the handset is distributed exclusively by Verizon Wireless. Features of the phone include Wi-Fi networking, a 5-megapixel low light capable digital camera, a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, interchangeable battery, 3.7-inch 854 x 480 touchscreen display. It also includes MicroSDHC support with bundled 16GB card, free turn-by-turn navigation from Google Maps, sliding QWERTY keyboard, and Texas Instruments OMAP 3430 processor. The Motorola Droid runs Android version 2.2.The phone does not, however, run the re-branded MOTOBLUR interface for Android, instead providing the Google Experience skin and application stack
The Droid has a hearing aid compatibility (hac) rating of M3/T3.The phone was the first to ship with free Google Maps Navigation (beta) installed. The Droid had been publicized under the codenames Sholes and Tao and the model number A855.. In Europe, the model number is A853 (Milestone).
Verizon explicitly promoted the Droid as an Apple iPhone-alternative. Launched on October 17, 2009 TV spots and an associated website made “entertainingly combative” claim listing features lacking on the iPhone, e.g. “iDon’t multitask”, only mentioning the name of the Droid in the final frame, reading “Droid Does”. At the official launch event on October 28, 2009 Verizon’s Chief Marketing Officer John Stratton described the campaign as a spoof of Apple’s iPhone ads, intended to “wake up the market.”Ironically, many Droid campaign ads, and the smartphone itself, feature Apple’s MacinTalk voice “Cellos” found on their line of Macintosh personal computers.
The marketing for the American launch included “Droid Does Times Square.” This was a program (billed as an “interactive experience”) in which Verizon connected the Nasdaq and Reuters electronic billboards in Times Square to its systems such that people were able to control the electronic displays by using voice commands (illustrating the voice search function that is a primary Android feature). Control of the billboards was available in Times Square or via the “Droid Does” website.
The November 6, 2009 release date of the Droid came just under a month after Verizon and Google announced that they had entered into an agreement to jointly develop wireless devices based on the Android mobile platform. Verizon said at the time that it planned to have two Android-based handsets on the market by year-end with more to come in 2010. The other handset is the HTC Droid Eris, a modification to the HTC Hero, seen in shots of Google CEO Eric Schmidt holding one in a Verizon/Google press conference.
American exclusive software for the Droid includes Google Maps Navigation, an Amazon MP3 Store applet, and Verizon Wireless Visual Voice Mail management.
Analytics firm Flurry estimated that 250,000 Motorola Droid phones were sold in the United States during the phone’s first week in stores. Flurry also estimated that 1.05 million Motorola Droids were sold in first 74 days of the launch. This number is greater than that of the original iPhone which sold one million units through day 74.[18] Flurry also reported that Droid sales did not match the newest Apple release, the iPhone 3GS, which sold 1.6 million in the first week
Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ, NASDAQ: VZ) is a global broadband and telecommunications company and a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. It started in 1983 as Bell Atlantic with a footprint covering New Jersey to Virginia and NYNEX with a footprint spanning from New York to Maine that emerged as part of the 1984 AT&T breakup into seven “Baby Bells.” Prior to its transformation into Verizon, Bell Atlantic merged with Regional Bell Operating Company, NYNEX, in 1997. The name Verizon is a portmanteau of veritas and horizon, and its pronunciation rhymes with horizon. The company’s headquarters are located in the Verizon Building at 140 West Street in Lower Manhattan, New York City
Bell Atlantic merged with GTE on June 30, 2000 and changed its name to Verizon Communications Inc. It was among the largest mergers in United States business history. It was the result of a definitive merger agreement, dated July 27, 1998, between Bell Atlantic, based in New York City since the merger with NYNEX in 1996, and GTE, which was in the process of moving its headquarters from Stamford, Connecticut, to Irving, Texas.
The Bell Atlantic–GTE merger, priced at more than $52 billion at the time of the announcement, closed nearly two years later, following analysis and approvals by Bell Atlantic and GTE shareowners, 27 state regulatory commissions and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and clearance from the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) and various international agencies.
The merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE, to form Verizon Communications, became effective on June 30, 2000, with an exchange ratio of 1.22 shares of Verizon Communications Common Stock for each share of GTE Common Stock owned. Fractional shares resulting from the exchange of GTE stock into Verizon Communications shares were sold at a price of $55.00 per share. Verizon began trading on the NYSE under its new “VZ” symbol on Monday, July 3, 2000.
Meanwhile, on September 21, 1999, Bell Atlantic and UK-based Vodafone AirTouch Plc (now Vodafone Group Plc) announced that they had agreed to create a new wireless business with a national footprint, a single brand and a common digital technology – composed of Bell Atlantic’s and Vodafone’s U.S. wireless assets (Bell Atlantic Mobile (which was previously called Bell Atlantic-NYNEX Mobile by 1997), AirTouch Cellular, PrimeCo Personal Communications, and AirTouch Paging). This wireless joint venture received regulatory approval in six months, and began operations as Verizon Wireless on April 4, 2000, kicking off the new “Verizon” brand name. GTE’s wireless operations became part of Verizon Wireless – creating what was initially the nation’s largest wireless company before Cingular Wireless acquired AT&T Wireless in 2004 – when the Bell Atlantic–GTE merger closed nearly three months later. Verizon then became the majority owner (55%) of Verizon Wireless.
Genuity was formerly the Internet division of GTE Corp and spun off in 2000.[4] Level 3 Communications acquired the assets of the bankrupt ISP in 2002 for only $137 million; a bargain-basement price considering the $616 million that a pre-Bell Atlantic-merger GTE paid for Genuity (then BBN Planet) in 1997
