Can you cut the temperature in half and double cooking time?

I want to make cornbread and my recipe states that I need to bake it at 400º for 18 minutes. Can I bake it at 200º for 30ish minutes, or will that not work? It’s just that I also have a roast in the oven…

Baking breads/cakes/cookies is such a scientific thing. You really cannot alter ingredients and temps/times very much without altering the final product. So my answer is no. The roast has to sit when it comes out of the oven anyway, otherwise all the juices will run out if you cut into it too soon, and it won’t be nice, tender and juicy. Just pop the cornbread in then when it is resting. You will have the perfect meal with freshly baked, hot cornbread, put some butter on top and let it melt, mmmm!
