The Stories of Spain’s History Reflected through Architectural Design
History leaves its trails in many different ways; it can leave its mark on a nation’s language, arts, and most especially in its architecture. Spain is rich in both non-physical and physical legacies of their culture, specially given that there are a lot of foreign influences at work when it comes to the development of their culture. So far, some of the oldest prehistoric architectures that can be found in Spain are in the Balearic Islands, Avila, and Santa Tecla. There are numerous structures that indicate how people have already been burying their dead and building tombs for them. As Spain changes into a more Gothic style of architecture, some structures became an inimitable combination of Gothic and Romanesque styles. Then again, things alter and so does the architectural trends in Spain; Roman influence was gradually switched by Gothic influence. The Cathedral of Avila is the first Gothic building with faint tips of past Roman influences but with more French and German factors worked in it.
There are heaps of added marks that history left with Spain, and staggeringly, much of these marks are well-preserved. The key is to pace yourself and take in as much as you can about this brilliantly interesting culture.
