How to build a Bridge out of Balsa Wood?

I need to make a bridge out of balsa wood that can support a bucket hanging from the bottom that is slowly filled with sand. I need some design ideas or basic concepts for building it. Also, it can only weigh 30 grams or about the weight of 4 quarters.

Look at some current bridges for guidance. An arch shape is very strong but hard to make from balsa (you’d have to steam the wood and form it very carefully). Otherwise you can form triangles, the strong polygon. Of course you know that already… here are some tips you might NOT know:

Carefully cut the angles so the pieces match and fit together and press against each other (becoming stronger) when weight is added. You don’t want to use anymore glue than you have to if you’re limited by weight and with my experience building model planes the glue will weigh as much as the balsa if you’re not careful!

Also look at current beam shapes to increase strength: put more material out farther from the center of gravity to increase resistance to turning and bending. (An “i” beam for example, has a lot of material on the tops and bottom flanges and a relatively thin middle web area)
