More Growth, More Profits And Blue Flying Skies Ahead For Turkish Airlines
The first Turkish Airlines flight took off in May, 1933, a few short years before the Second World War. Four planes with a total capacity of 23 passengers marked the humble beginnings of this company. They did not add another aircraft to their fleet until 1945. Currently, they took reception of a Boeing 777-300ER, the first of twelve, that is the most advanced intercontinental airplane. Profits and expanded routes have been steadily increasing each year for at least the past five years. It appears that Turkish Airlines has truly learned some important lessons from the time when they couldn’t fly more than 23 passengers at once.
At the beginning of 2011, Turkish Airlines signed a codeshare contract with US Airways. Codeshare agreements are legal contracts that allow two airlines to share passenger reservations with each other. Airlines find this arrangement advantageous because both parties can make more money and increase their customer base. Since it’s easier to get better deals and there are more flights they can take, these arrangements are also to the benefit of passengers. Thus, the codeshare signed between these two airlines will result in more options for travelers going to Turkey or to the United States. Just late last year in October of 2010, English soccer team, Manchester United, and Turkish Airlines completed final negotiations for a contract extending for just over three years. Manchester United will work with Turkish Airlines for a high tech TV commercial that will introduce the airlines’ new idea for business class travel. There are many reasons that both sides find this a great project. While Turkish Airlines does have quite a bit of a history, their start was quite rocky. This is not an unusual situation for an airline, though, because there are many challenges that need to be resolved. All areas of this airline have undergone significant changes, from the bottom to the top. This is a company that has clearly learned its lessons and will not repeat the same mistakes, transforming into a strong company that can easily adapt to the environment. The changes and development taking place at Turkish Airlines are quite exciting and this article has only provided a small glimpse of them.
